With the recent coronavirus cases being identified in Michigan, Samaritas and Lutheran Adoption Service are taking extra precautions to help keep our children, families and teams safe. We want to assure you of the following:

  1. Our support to you is a critical priority! We want to make every effort to assure the safety and well-being of everyone. Please reach out to your worker or local office is you have any questions.

  2. We will be contacting you prior to a home visit with you, to ask questions about your health (and that of your family members) prior to visiting at your home. We will also ask these questions of you if you visit a Samaritas office. We know that extra health precautions during this time are important in curbing the spread of coronavirus. Please do not take this personally but as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the virus.

  3. Our offices will be supplied with hand sanitizer and wipes; we encourage hand washing often throughout the day, and prior to entry into an office. Surfaces in our offices and visit spaces (work areas, common areas, toys and equipment) will be cleaned multiple times daily.

  4. If you are feeling ill or display symptoms (respiratory infection such as cough, fever, sore throat or shortness of breath) we ask that you not come to an office and contact your healthcare provider.

  5. Large meetings and gatherings will be suspended until Friday, April 3 in an effort to socially isolate from large groups.

We continue to monitor coronavirus updates via the CDC and will communicate with you as needed. Here are a few helpful links with information:

Parenting children who have experienced trauma presents unique challenges. LAS is SO grateful to work with such generous and loving families and we want to continue to be part of their village even after the completion of their adoptions.

One way we can do this is by bringing together families who can support one another in their shared goal of providing a safe home for abused and neglected children. We want for you to be able to bring up topics for discussion and identify areas where there is a need for information or suggestions. The group is open to families at any stage of the adoption process, whether they are looking for a child or post-adoption.

The group is typically held monthly on the second Saturday of the month. Please feel free to attend the sessions as you can make them. You do not need to be able to attend all of the sessions in order to participate. We can have childcare available (also at no cost), but we need to know ahead of time if children need this service.

Please RSVP for each group you plan on attending as we need to arrange staffing and/or childcare. We will cancel group if less than 2 families plan to attend. You can contact Gabriella Nabozny by phone or email to RSVP.
